defensive dilemma
with left back once again posing problems (hairdryer & santon injured) it would be easy for pardew to just drop jonas in there.

apparently mbiwa can play there, if colo is back it would make sense to play him and saylor with simmo on the right and mbiwa on the left.

I would like to see: 3 centre backs of saylor (right) colo (middle) and mbiwa (left) along with jonas (left) and simmo (right) playing as wing backs then try and utilise the glut of midfield players into something that can take control of the midfield and create chances. I would like to see perchinhio played in the defensive mid position as he seems to bring calmness and good retention of the ball by accurate passing.

the rest can scrap for the remaining places imo
what u would like to see and what you will see is 2 different things.

if hairdara is injured then i would do what you first suggested and move mbiwa over, last thing we want is jonas down there, to be honest the last thing we want is jonas anywhere
5-4-1 would be interesting god, but the chances of that happening are slim imo. We will see a 451 or a 442 without a doubt.
give Anita a shot right back
taylor colo amd MYM left back

cabaye sissoko tiote gutierrez

ben arfa and cisse

i just cant help but think that Williamson/Perch will play some part in pardews mind

i think that next wednesday morning we'll be in the bottom 3
I would be far happier to have Simpson at right back tomorrow.
They play with an out and out winger in Jarvis so I prefer to have a proper right back there rather than someone who can fill in.

Left back is anyones guess if Haidara is unfit.
I suppose putting Perch there is the the best of a bad bunch of options.
Another would be Simpson to left back and Anita to right back.

Would much prefer us to play a 4-5-1.
Cisse up front.
Ben Arfa and Gouffran out wide.
cabaye, Tiote and Sissoko in the middle.

Whatever formation we play we HAVE to get up and support Cisse at every opportunity.
I would love to give Campbell a runout but don't see it happening.
Would be good in a 4-4-2 with him replacing Tiote in the starting 11.
Get the feeling Shola will start tomorrow though.

isnt anita capable of playing left back

so we will need to push up and pressure the ball

they play a lot of second ball as well so we are going to have to be on our toes

I remember when we used to play against Everton when Drunken Duncan was in his prime.
I used to be screaming at the players to allow him to win the headers and then look at the second ball.
Of course we very rarely did it and the likes of Gary Speed was a master at playing off him and running on to the knock downs.
The only centre half we had who I ever remember playing him well was the much under rated Darren Peacock.
Challenged him when he could and picked up the loose ball when he couldn't.
Its a tactic that should have been worked on this week.
I have already said that the only player in our squad who I see competing in the air with Carroll is Williamson and he probably won't play.
So its going to be a case of getting tight on the likes of Jarvis and cutting out the supply.

im sure coolo could have judas in his pocket if he is playing

Hope your right, but Collo has looked very suspect in the air this season. Even Suarez did him in the air at Anfield.
Simpson just HAS to play at right-back. He's an ideal player for the position in which we find ourselves. He certainly doesn't have the elegance or technique of say, Santon, but he gives everything he has, is a reliable defender and does the right thing usually in dangerous situations (unlike Santon!). We all know he has flaws to his game but he is "fresh" and we need his fighting spirit at the weekend.
I would put Mbiwa at LB, personally. Perch as a second option. I remember how well the latter handled Jonas in our Championship season in the games against Notts. Forest (he was the only full-back Jonas did not master that season) but he was on the right side that day. I'm not sure how ambidextrous Perch is.
i can see jonas in at left back in this game .wrong decision imo but pardew does love jonas and playing players out of position.a point away will be a good point .
