Opportunity Knocks!
Fate, or more particularly the next two scheduled fixtures, present us with an opportunity to increase the gap between us and the team in 3rd.

Our next two games are both at home, and on paper both look winnable - Aston Villa & Bristol City - neither of whom are pulling up any trees this season.

I know we've had some dodgy results at home - Wolves, Blackburn etc - but I'm sure Rafa is eyeing up six points from these games, especially with our goal machine back in the squad.

The significance and importance of the next two games is reinforced when you look at who Sky Sports darlings Huddersfield Town will be playing - Reading at home, 3 days after playing Man City in the FA Cup, then a local derby at Barnsley.

If we win both of our games, I doubt if Huddersfield will pick up maximum points too, so the current 5 point gap (plus goal difference) will be increased.

This increase in the gap will be a useful confidence booster as the three games after that are the hardest run of games we've had this season - Brighton, Huddersfield and Reading, all away from home.

But even then, with our away form and our defensive record, I'm sure we will also be picking up points from those fixtures.

3 draws in those 3 fixtures would be a decent return, with none of them getting an immediate boost over us.
They also still have to play eachother, whereas after that run we don't have that many pivotal games.
Leeds up here and Sheff Wed away are both games we should be looking at maximum points from.

Take the 6 points we would expect at home, and the pressure is firmly on the rest.
Look at Brighton. Are they starting to feel it now?
Another penalty to get them a point at home to a team we thrashed convincingly.

"We are not a stepping stone, we are Newcastle United. Every player should be honoured to wear the shirt of this club" Rafa Benitez.

RE: Opportunity Knocks!
I worry that those three games at the beginning of March will be seen as must not lose games rather than must win games and we'll end up playing for the draws. I hope we go and get decent wins, no reason we can't especially with Gayle back.

Those 3 games look tough

But they also present an opportunity for us to stop the others in their tracks
