On 9th March 1929, Newcastle United defeated Sunderland 4-3 on Tyneside.
65,838 fans crammed into St. James' Park to see legendary number 9 Hughie Gallacher score twice in the game.

ON THIS DAY
On 11th March 2003, more than 10,000 Newcastle United fans were inside the San Siro to see the Magpies draw 2-2 with F.C. Internazionale Milano in the UEFA Champions League.
Alan Shearer twice gave United the lead but Inter responded through Christian Vieri and Ivan Cordoba.

Had a good chat with the lads on social media about this last night.

Think we all agreed that it's the best game we EVER attended when everything else is taken in to context.
In Milan, playing in the Champions league, 10000+ fans there, ridiculous amounts of drink consumed both there and in Venice the night before, outplaying a then top European side in their own back yard, the San fucking Siro.

I mean come on.
Do articles about punching above/below our weight currently not just turn your stomach?

I remember it well.

Was in the Long Bar for the happy hour and for my last drink I ended up getting 2 for 1.
By the time I supped them and got in we were already a man and a goal down.
Funnily enough though, I seem to recall the scoreline being quite flattering to them as we still gave it a good go.
