Blackburn Preview

Don’t know about you, but I’m getting sick of the sight of Blackburn Rovers! We’ve played them three times already this season and of course they were never off the TV screens during the really vicious fan protests against their manager Steve Kean and owners, the Venkys. Having said that, after the wierd loss to them earlier in the season in the League Cup, we’ve since beaten them at St James’ Park in Premier League and the FA Cup so it would appear we have […]

    Nobody Is Leaving! Maybe….

Halfway through Sky’s Epic Programme “Transfer Deadline Day” (TDD) and no news of any United players being the subject of huge bids by anybody. Good. Let’s keep it that way! The Sky programme itself, of course, is hugely entertaining when it’s all about other clubs. Got to hand it to those lads and lasses who sit behind the big Sky desk in relays and try very professionally to get us excited about sensational news like “Saha to Spurs”….yawn!

  • Brighton 1 United 0 FA Cup

Brighton 1 United 0 FA Cup

Venue: Amex Stadium, Brighton Date: 28th January 2012 Kick Off: 5.15pm Referee:Lee Probert Quite simply, this was a game United should not have lost. Even with the cautious tactics employed by Pardew we were clearly a class above, dominated 75% of the game and had a penalty appeal for a blatant handball turned down. With a bit more adventure and somebody up front who actually had a clue, we could and should have won this comfortably. Instead, we were dumped out of the cup by […]

Brighton v Newcastle United FA Cup Match Preview

It’s the 4th Round of the FA Cup and we’re still in it! Added to that some notable teams such as Manchester City have already left the competition, and the so-called “big boys” keep getting drawn against each other for a change which can’t be bad. Could this be our year? I would love it, just love it if we went all the way (and beat Tottenham in the final, but that’s just a personal wish…). At least six Premier League sides will go out […]

  • Pardew Throws Light On United’s Transfer Policy

This transfer business can sometimes be similar to a game of chess between the clubs involved, but if it is a game then one thing is for sure, over the last couple of seasons Newcastle United have shown themselves to be one of the better players – with the quiet but efficient aquisition of plyers like Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba smoothly and with the minimum of fuss. In contrast with the past, United go about their business quietly and sign up some […]

  • Watford Playing Silly Buggers

From tonight’s Newcastle Evening Chronicle: WATFORD boss Sean Dyche tonight told Newcastle United they were “miles away” with their bid for defender Adrian Mariappa. The Hornets have refused to give United a valuation on the 25-year-old centre-back and have dug their heels in after Newcastle’s initial bid was turned down by the Hertfordshire outfit. Says it all really! United have clearly decided they want the player, Watford have clearly decided they want to screw the Toon for as much as they can. They know they […]

  • Fulham 5 United 2

    Fulham 5 United 2

If ever you want to see a textbook example of “a game of two halves”, get the DVD of this game. though personally, it’s a video horror show I’ll be steering clear of. United went into this game sitting in sixth place on merit, and with a chance of leapfrogging Arsenal and moving into fifth. It was a nice sunny day down in London, the pitch looked in good condition and there was black and white in evidence everywhere – even down to Newcastle’s all […]

  • Fulham v Newcastle United Preview!

Fulham are one of those inconsistent teams that seem to go from one extreme to the other. This season for example they have crushed Queens Park Rangers 6-0 at Craven Cottage, including a hat-trick for Andy Johnson, but also lost 0-5 to easy meat like Manchester United (did you see what I did there?). As far as this game goes, one of the factors influencing the result will be which Fulham team actually turns up! This inconsistency could, of course, be partly due to their […]

  • St James’ Park – City Council Write To Media!

City council bosses have said they will be appealing to the media to continue to refer to the Newcastle United ground as St James’ Park. In November it was announced that it was being renamed Sports Direct Arena, after owner Mike Ashley’s company. Many fans reacted angrily, but the club said it was a prelude to securing a new global sponsor. Councillors agreed to write to media outlets “respectfully requesting” them not to use the new name.
