    Hike4Hopey Sets Off From Ipswich

While the result on the pitch will only have pleased one set of supporters, yesterday’s Sir Bobby Robson Day at Portman Road was something fans of Ipswich Town and Newcastle United could all celebrate. As well as remembering a manager who is closely linked with both clubs, the day raised money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Guests of honour on the pitch included Sir Bobby’s family and both teams warmed up wearing Sir Bobby Robson Foundation t-shirts. And fundraising for the charity continues today […]

Brighton, Huddersfield And Reading Games Over And We’re Still Standing!

Fate and the Football League fixture computer threw up a remarkable series of matches for Newcastle United in the last eight days. Our last three games, all away from home, pitched us against the teams who are very much our direct competition for automatic promotion this season. The press and media, bless them, got very excited about this run of games, and speculation was rife that we might lose all three. Indeed, there were certain parts of the media (are you reading this Sky match […]

Opportunity Knocks For Newcastle United Thanks To The Fixture List

Fate, or more particularly the next two scheduled fixtures, present Newcastle United with an opportunity to increase the vital gap between us and Huddersfield Town, the team in 3rd place in the Championship. Our next two games are both at home, and on paper both look winnable – Aston Villa (Monday 20th February) & Bristol City (Saturday 25th February). Neither of these teams are pulling up any trees this season and are there for the taking. I know, I know – we’ve had some dodgy […]

Were The Fans “Cheated” At Oxford?

I went to Oxford on Saturday and wouldn’t be looking for a refund. I never have and never will. Probably cost me and the missus best part of £150 all in but there you go. Did I feel short changed? Yes I did. Not just in the team selection, but also in the manner some of our players went about it. We had wide players who couldn’t cross a ball, either from open play or dead balls. Shocking lack of ability. Even if they had […]

New Signing For Sir Bobby’s Foundation

Professor Chris Day, Newcastle University’s new Vice-Chancellor and President, has agreed to join the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation’s Board of Trustees. A liver disease expert, Professor Day brings with him a vast wealth of experience and knowledge and is a strong addition to Sir Bobby’s team. Professor Day was brought up in North Tyneside and studied medicine at the University of Cambridge before returning to the North East to practise at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital. He was formerly Head of the School of Clinical Medical Sciences […]

What’s Said On The Pitch Should Stay On The Pitch

Jonjo Shelvey banned for 5 matches and fined £100,000. Should keep the FA and the rest of the Championship happy now then. A kick in the proverbials for us is what everyone has been wanting. The FA can now afford to pay their “poppy fine” so a win win for all concerned. Also an opportunity for the do gooders amongst our fans to have a go at Shelvey as well. The ones who were visibly gutted when his red card was overturned after slagging him […]

  • Nottingham Forest Referee 2 Newcastle United 1

Nottingham Forest Referee 2 Newcastle United 1

I was lost for words last night. Nottingham Forest’s pet referee Stephen Martin had clearly decided to dispense with any pretence of neutrality and had decided to take whatever action was necessary to enure Newcastle United were beaten. A penalty disallowed, a perfectly good goal disallowed, two ridiculous red card dismissals totally unwarranted, took any attempt at balance or pleas of genuine refereeing mistakes way beyond what might be considered excusable. This bloke made Trelford Mills look like a saint. (Younger fans please google). I […]

Rafa Benitez To West Ham? What A Joke!

“we bought your ground for you” “we bought your ground for you!” Some London-based journos have been writing about the plight of poor little West Ham, languishing at the wrong end of the Premier League and apparently about to sack their latest “messiah” Slaven Bilic. The answer of the West Ham heirarchy, who appear to be slightly out of touch with reality, is apparently to seek to replace Bilic with United manager Rafa Benitez. Have to admit this story coming out of London has to […]

  • Leeds United v Newcastle United: Looking Forward To This One!

Leeds United v Newcastle United: Looking Forward To This One!

Two massive clubs collide in a mouth-watering fixture tomorrow at Elland Road. Leeds United host Newcastle United in a top of the table clash in the English Championship. Newcastle of course sit proudly at the top of the division, and Leeds are currently in a play-off place. The match is a rare sell-out for Leeds who’s official attendance capacity is quoted as 39,460 – although there was a fella on BBC Football Focus saying they’ve sold 44,000 tickets – work that one out! Only 2,764 […]
