    Fulham 5 United 2

If ever you want to see a textbook example of “a game of two halves”, get the DVD of this game. though personally, it’s a video horror show I’ll be steering clear of. United went into this game sitting in sixth place on merit, and with a chance of leapfrogging Arsenal and moving into fifth. It was a nice sunny day down in London, the pitch looked in good condition and there was black and white in evidence everywhere – even down to Newcastle’s all […]

  • Fulham v Newcastle United Preview!

Fulham are one of those inconsistent teams that seem to go from one extreme to the other. This season for example they have crushed Queens Park Rangers 6-0 at Craven Cottage, including a hat-trick for Andy Johnson, but also lost 0-5 to easy meat like Manchester United (did you see what I did there?). As far as this game goes, one of the factors influencing the result will be which Fulham team actually turns up! This inconsistency could, of course, be partly due to their […]

  • St James’ Park – City Council Write To Media!

City council bosses have said they will be appealing to the media to continue to refer to the Newcastle United ground as St James’ Park. In November it was announced that it was being renamed Sports Direct Arena, after owner Mike Ashley’s company. Many fans reacted angrily, but the club said it was a prelude to securing a new global sponsor. Councillors agreed to write to media outlets “respectfully requesting” them not to use the new name. • Howay The (African) Lads!

The recent signing of Senegal striker Papiss Cisse by United added to the fact that Demba Ba is also a Senegal star potentially means that Geordie fans will take more of an interest in the African Cup Of Nations (ACON) which kicks off this weekend. And of course we also have our very own (at least at the time of writing!) Cheick Tiote involved as part of the Ivory Coast team. Obviously, we hope the lads do well – but not too well considering the […]

  • Alan Pardew On Cisse Capture

The silver fox speaks – and we listen…..These comments were made to the official NUFC Website: “To join him with players like Cabaye, Demba [Ba] and Ben Arfa – it really does look exciting now,” Pardew told the club’s official website. “He was the second-top goal scorer in the Bundesliga last year and he’s had a good return already this year, so he’s in good form. “He’s a player who plays off the shoulder and wants to go in behind, but he’s got a little […]

  • Cisse Signs!

    Cisse Signs!

“I would like to thank everybody for their welcome, and for inviting me to sign for the Club,” “It is an honour to play for such a big club and I am looking forward to it. “First of all, I would like to give good value for money for the people who brought me here. “I want to pay back the confidence the Club have shown in me, and give the supporters something to be proud of.” “I am a goalscorer, and that is […]

  • Man Arrested After Cisse Twitter Remark

A MAN has been arrested after reports were made of racist abuse directed at Newcastle United on a social network site. The 29-year-old man was detained by Northumbria Police after complaints were received about the racist tweet yesterday. He is being held in custody pending further inquiries today. The comment was said to have been posted on the Twitter site following news that United were in the process of signing Senegalese striker Papiss Demba Cisse from German club Freiburg. The slur is believed to have […]

  • Virgin And Newcastle United – Can A Brand Be Lucky?

Virgin And Newcastle United – Can A Brand Be Lucky?

“Twenty years ago, we sponsored Crystal Palace and they got to the FA Cup final. Then last week, we sponsored Newcastle and they beat Manchester United 3-love.” “So we’re a lucky brand, and may the luck continue throughout the rest of the season.” The words of Sir Richard Branson, (3-love?? – clearly a tennis fan!) the 4th richest person in the UK and 254th richest in the world. Not bad for a bloke who started with a mail order record business in 1970 and who […]

  • Newcastle United 1 QPR 0

United came to this game on the back of 2 excellent straight wins against Man Utd 3-0 (got that one in early today!) and Blackburn 2-1 in the FA Cup. In contrast, Queens Park Rangers had taken only one point from their last 6 games. Everything pointed to a fairly routine, comfortable home win. However this was the first league game without Demba Ba and Cheick Tiote, and the other potentially influencing factor was the appointment of Mark Hughes, who took charge of QPR for […]
