I was trying to think of the best way to describe watching our beloved United this season and I find it a completely unenjoyable, exhaustive experience. Any highs we get during the 90 minutes just get quashed by the inevitable final ball or from our finishing. This even takes into account the fact that the first 45 minutes against Brighton 1were arguably our best football this season!

And yet having watched us control the game, I had no real confidence we would score. I just had hope of a set piece or something falling our way, rather than craft and guile fashioning opportunities.

This might be controversial, and I would have lost my mind had we done it, but had we cashed in on Isak for say £110-120 million in the summer and bought in a right winger who can fill in down the middle, and a centre forward, we would have been in for a completely different season.

My biggest fear this year was on the back of another under performing season, our star players would be queuing up to leave. We are closing in on November and right now I would happily sell a star player if it meant we could genuinely reinvest in 2, maybe 3 players of real quality, who could come in in their place. Villa did it with Grealish, and regardless of where you sit on the Emery vs Howe debate, they are a better football team for selling him and reinvesting in multiple positions.

We have stood still and we are getting left behind, and with PSR going nowhere, I feel we need to refresh a few areas of the starting 11 to really go again.

Sure, right now we are a 7th-9th placed team in terms of realistic outlook, and if that’s what people are happy with, that’s exactly where we will land. We know PIF are not happy with this though, and right now its easy to pin the problems on the abysmal recruitment,

but I also fear Howe is going to be under huge pressure should we fall outside of the European places yet again this season. We don’t fully know what we are left with to spend in the next 2 windows, presumably a minimum of 60 million based on the protracted Guehi embarassment, but if we are not left with much more, I think a big call will need to made around one of our “stars”, in order for us to kick on again, as well as making a big call on whether or not Howe is tactically good enough to lead the players he will have at his disposal.

I still don’t know if he is, it’s a really tough call.
