Steve McClaren

It goes without saying that Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren was disappointed with the result against Arsenal today, and some of the other events which went on.

McClaren felt that the straight red card for Mitrovic by referee Andre Marriner was harsh.

And as I said in our earlier post-match article, I totally agree.

Following that doubtful red card in the 16th minute, ten-man United had to put in a backs to the wall for the bulk of the game, in an effort to try to salvage anything from the game.

Quick Draw McGraw Marriner also dished out six yellow cards to United players as he reduced the match to a bit of a farce as a spectacle.

Reaction from United fans on the UTD111 Forum and as evidenced on social media has pointed the finger at Marriner, who seemed determined to be the “star” of today’s televised game.

But when the dust has settled, we will still be confident about our prospects this season, having seen excellent individual performances from the likes of Krul, Mbemba, Coloccini, Wijnaldum, Anita and Thauvin in particular.

Steve McClaren gave a post-match interview with Radio Newcastle – and you can listen to it right here!
