defence350compWhilst it’s been good to see some cash finally splashed on players during this summer transfer window, this blog has repeatedly and consistently pointed to the weaknesses in the Newcastle United defence which need to be urgently addressed.

Weaknesses which have not been mentioned by the club, and don’t seem likely to be?

We’ve assembled a half decent attacking side, bar the one top striker that Alan Pardew has mentioned.

Personally, I was actually surprised that Alan Pardew admitted that we still need a proven striker before the window shuts.

However, whilst our attack seems likely to be OK this season, the story is different at the other end.

Last night at Huddersfield, we conceded goals which highlighted once again that we don’t just have a glass jaw at the back…it’s actually a chandelier!

Huddersfield’s first goal was shambolic as yet again we were all over the shop and we weakened our defence when we took off Williamson for Taylor just before the second goal.

We desperately need a top class centre-half as, in my opinion, Coloccini is on his way out.

Williamson should be a squad player and Taylor is a liability.

We need to give Yanga-Mbiwa an extended run in the side in his proper position at the centre of defence, but give him a proven partner who can handle the pace of the Premier League.

It wasn’t that long ago that we seemed to be doing OK at the back with the same players that we have so all can’t be bad but last night against Huddersfield the defence were pulled all over the place yet again but this time by a Championship side!

Surely a lot of this has to fall at the feet of Alan Pardew and his coaching team?

Yes we haven’t got the greatest defence but last night they were completely clueless as to positional skills. School boy errors were made and and they looked lost – like they didn’t even know each other.

I must say ‘m more than a little bit concerned going into the new season with this total mayhem at the back.

Whats the plan Pardew??

Is it they’ll score 5 so we’ll score 6?

That worked for Kevin Keegan but he had Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand and David Ginola!

Suicidal with our squad!
